Battle at the Lakes Recap. 17u make Final 4 in Regional Division. 14u finish 3-1 and 15u 2-2!


It was a very successful weekend for the SD Venom 17u, 14u National and 15u teams at the Battle at the Lakes tourney in Minneapolis.

The 17’s finish 3-1 on the weekend making the Final 4 of the 24 team Regional Division. Losing a tough game in the semi’s 56-60 to the eventual tourney champs Wisconsin 1848 team. They drew the attention of the PrepHoops staff covering the event as one of their favorite teams to watch with their style of play. This was the 2nd straight semi final appearance for the 17u team and they are getting better each weekend out. This team is 6-2 already on the Summer season and are looking forward to the rest of the season.

The 14u National team made it to the quarterfinals in a very tough bracket. The boys won their pool to set up bracket play. Highlights of the weekend were an impressive 50-34 win over D1 Minnesota, a top club out of Minneapolis and a 58-53 win over Top Flight Black to get into the quarters. Then in the quarters they lost 45-43 to one of the top teams in Wisconsin. The National team finished 3-1 for the weekend.

The 15u boys kicked off the Battle at the Lakes with a huge 60-32 win over Grassroots Sizzle to win their pool. Saturday was bracket play and the 15’s came away with the win of the weekend. Down 4-24 to Old Gold early things weren’t looking good for Venom, but they played hard and chipped away at the deficit finally pulling out a 55-51 in overtime advancing to the quarters. The boys ran out of gas and dropped to Wisconsin United 42-67 sending to the Gold Bracket. In their final game of the tourney the 15’s lost a tough one to the MN Wolves 40-43 to finish 2-2 for the weekend.

All in all SD Venom finished 8-4 on the weekend. The boys played hard all weekend and showed they can compete with the top talent in the Region! Great job to all!
